![]() ![]() You can either connect via USB, or if your computer has Bluetooth support, you can pair the DS4 with the Bluetooth controller and connect wirelessly that way. Step 6: Plug in the controller (or connect via Bluetooth) NOW plug the controller in, and as soon as the controller is connected your desktop will return. You can do it manually (by stopping explorer.exe), but on the main (left most) tab there should be a button near the top that says "Exclusive Mode" or something similar.Ĭlick that, and don't freak out. Luckily, within the past couple months a fix was discovered. Windows 10 differs from Windows 8 and previous OS's in that Windows 10 itself natively detects the DS4, and that's a problem, because in order to play with the DS4 in exclusive mode all programs which detect the DS4 must be closed temporarily when plugging in a controller. Step 5 (Windows 10 only): Click the Exclusivity Mode button It's easier to do it without a controller being plugged in. If you do have a controller plugged in, you have to close Steam, Uplay, or any other programs that naturally detect the DS4, before you can click the "hide DS4" button. At this point make sure you don't have a controller plugged in. Step 4: Tick the "Hide DS4" button in the settings Windows 8 and Windows 10 natively support DS4 (to different extents, I'll get to that later) and so this step isn't necessary for those two. Simply click that button, and it will install the DS4 drivers. A menu will pop up with a button at the top. All you need to do is go to the "Settings" tab, and you should see a blue underlined link near the bottom mentioning a controller driver. Luckily, DS4Windows includes a handy driver. Step 3 (Windows Vista and 7 only): Download DS4 Driver This works with Windows Vista, 7, 8 AND 10. So here's a guide on how to use the DS4 so that it works properly. ![]() So the controls get fucked up and make the game unplayable. Instead of using the Xinput wrapper like most other games would, the game gets confused and.I guess tries to use both of them at the same time. Now, Dark Souls, because it's a bad port, detects both the DS4 and the Xinput wrapper program the DS4 is being disguised under. ![]() 1 would be the "generic controller" or whatever your control panel calls it that the DS4 is listed as, and the 2nd would be the Xbox 360 Controller that the Xinput wrapper is disguising the DS4 as.Įven though games now perform with the DS4 as though it's a 360 controller, both controllers are still listed in the control panel. If you were to go into the control panel (under the device menu) after activating an Xinput wrapper, you would see 2 controllers listed. However, there are certain games, like Dark Souls, where issues persist with using the controller even when using an Xinput program.įrom what I recall, the face buttons were swapped counterclockwise (so O behaved like X, Triangle behaved like O, etc.), Select and Start were swapped with 元 and R3, and the camera constantly spins, with no way to stop it.įrom what I understand, it has to do with how Dark Souls reacts to the DS4 in addition to the Xinput wrapper. And as said, everything else is closed except ds4windows but it still wont work. Most modern games work just fine with the DS4, and in fact Windows 10 now has complete native support for the DS4 (so Xinput wrapper programs are no longer needed). It's just weird that ds4windows doesn't get exclusive controll over my ds4. The controller works perfectly on any other games, even without ds4windows, but not on any dark souls game.ĭs4windows starts at windows startup and steam doesn't. Drivers were installed when i plugged in the controller after the windows 10 update and the controller glows. Motionjoy doesn't work either (didn't really expect it to though). ![]() Inputmapper wont work either (same error). I've already done those little things like "hide ds4 controller" and "close steam etc before opening ds4windows" and it worked perfectly before with these settings, but now it wont. So i've been playing Dark souls 3 for some time with my ds4 controller.ĭs4windows worked perfectly fine until a recent windows 10 update. ![]()
